Ruff Ryders’ Darrin “Dee” Dean Indicted on Cocaine Charges
Darrin “Dee” Dean, co-CEO of the Ruff Ryders record label, was indicted on Wednesday (August 29) in Hackensack, N.J. on drug and weapons charges. As previously reported on XXLMag.com, Dean and his driver, Jerry Gilbert, were pulled over on May 31 in the Englewood Cliffs section of the Palisades Parkway in New Jersey after leaving Deans’ Suffern, N.Y. home. Detective Sgt. Michael Coppola of the Interstate Parkway Police says that the officers on the scene were overwhelmed by the smell of marijuana coming from the duo’s customized Chevy van when they stopped them for a broken taillight. A search of the vehicle revealed a hidden compartment in the van’s rear that contained a kilogram and a half of cocaine and a loaded .45 caliber handgun. According to the Bergen Record, Dean and Gilbert were indicted yesterday and charged with possession of large amounts of cocaine with intent to distribute and the unlawful possession of an Intratec .45 caliber handgun. Both men are facing up to 20 years if convicted. Dean and Gilbert, who are both free on $342,500 bail, are due back in court for arraignment in the next four to six weeks.
