Common Finds His Way to Top of Billboard Charts

common.jpgVeteran MC Common will take the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart this week with his latest LP, Finding Forever. The Chi-town native’s latest project, powered by the singles “The People” and “The Game,” moved 155,000 copies in its first week in stores, outselling rock band Korn by almost 30,000 copies for the top spot. Also landing in the Top 10 this week is Sean Kingston, with his self-titled debut. The Jamaican youngster, who has ruled summer radio with his reggae infused banger “Beautiful Girl,” will take the No. 6 slot after consumers picked up just under 75,000 copies of the LP.

Elsewhere on the charts we see Def Squad crew member and solo veteran Keith Murray landing at No. 52 with his latest, Rap-Murr-Phobia, which scanned about 13,300 copies in its first week. The project, which was released through Koch Records, spawned the Tyrese Gibson assisted single “Nobody Do It Better.” Next up we see Memphis, TN native Kia Shine making his career debut on the Billboard charts. Despite the respectable buzz surrounding his smash single “Krispy,” Kia only managed to scan about 9,500 copies of his project Due Season, to land at No. 84.

  • Ghost Deini

That common album sucks, BAD. I like the first 2 singles, and that’s about it. I hate on all these one hit wonders, but I can’t even front…..Krispy stays bumpin in the car.

  • Ali

  • RC

I dig Com’s music since “ressurection” (I missed that “can I borrow…”) & glad that substance oversold the bullshit but yeah, the LP isn’t all that I expected it to be… well maybe I expected too much!!! hope Kanye doesn’t go that way.

I’ll cop that UGK as well even if it’s Double CD

  • Rockcity

I’m late on gettin that keith Murray album, i forgot it even came out, talk about fucked up promo. But this is a decent look for hip hop, i guess.

Finding Forever is good hip-hop music at it’s finest. R.I.P J “Detroit I to the lla” Dilla

  • Soul Digga

Common dropped some real ill joints on Finding Forever but one Dilla track just wasn’t enough.

  • strikebackk

damn 9,600 copes thats double wood. He could have sold that out the back of his trunk

  • dolo

smh @ dude saying commmon album sucks but “stays bumpin krispy”

  • render

Not sure how you can say this album sucks. IMO its basically average stuff by his standards, and it admittedly gets preachy and self-important at times, but take it or leave it, is still better than a lot of shit out there. There’s definitely been some worse stuff selling top spot numbers lately(which are low as hell, gotDAMN)

  • BklynBandette

Way 2 Go Common. I’m Sure Rev. Sharpton Is Very Proud Of You.

  • http://www.soulink.net Cool

LONG LIVE HIP HOP SOUL .

  • ALMIGHTYCVL

A Soul sound like you just dont like anything from the south to me. That UGK album touches on different subject matters and they talkin some real shit. If thats not real hip hop I don’t know what is. I can respect his message but that Common shit gets no airplay in the streets. You can go to bet.com and listen to both albums(if they havent taken them down yet)

  • Prince Of The South

These young dumb fucks don’t know nothing about Common. That’s real hip hop. That MTV list is wack, he’ll eat damn near any new rapper that’s out. Check what he did to cube back in the day. Common new album hot though. It’s a breath of fresh air from this garbage.

  • wat-wat-wat!

Finally we have Real Hip-Hop @ number 1.

….we do it for the pple” (real hip hop heads)

    go com!

  • grapes

    YO….STOP BOOTLEGGIN’.

  • Cynic

Great job by Common he finnally got the recognition he deserves so big ups to him!And Im suprised Keith Murray didnt sell more I know his single is a kind of R&B and single more than hip hop but if you listen closely that boy has some skills/rhymes!But anyway the real spotlight should belong to Common cuz one of the greatest rappers of all-time just reached yet another milestone congratulations to Common!!!

  • http://www.bangg301.com Bootleg Bill

That’s good for Common. People are so desparate for good music that they by a okay Common album. That Lilly Ellen shit is slumming and the Dilla joint if from Dilla last work on the Shining, real lazy. I hope Keith can pick better beats than Common. Both of them can kill it lryically and both worked with Dilla but Keith always seemed to pick the better beats – Most Beautifulist remix over that Electric Circus stuff.

Speaking of better beats, if you looking for some better beats, holla at Willie Bangg. Who the F_ck is Willie Bangg, find out at http://www.bangg301.com
