Nike to Donate Proceeds from “Classic” Track to Baltimore Boys and Girls Club

kanye_classic.jpgSneaker giant NIKE has announced that it will donate all proceeds from the sale of the song “Classic – Better Than I’ve Ever Been” to two chapters of the Baltimore Boys and Girls Club of America via the NIKE Youth Sport for Change Fund. The track, which was released in February, features Kanye West, Nas, KRS-One and Rakim and was produced by DJ Premier. NIKE commisioned the song as part of the 25th Anniversary celebration of their Air Force 1 sneaker. Since being offered for purchase on Apple’s iTunes digital music store, “Classic” and it’s original version—which does not feature Rakim and was produced by Rick Rubin—have downloaded 85,000 times. The track has also been placed into rotation on several major radio stations, including New York’s Hot 97, and the video can be seen on MTV and BET. All of NIKE and the artists proceeds will be donated to Jackson Unit Boys & Girls Club of America and The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of America, both in Baltimore.
