Afeni Shakur’s Guest Home Burns Down
On Friday July 6, a fire at the Lumberton, NC home of Afeni Shakur-Davis, mother of slain hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur, devastated the property’s guest residence, prompting fire officials to declare it a total loss. According to local station News 14, there was nobody at the home when the fire broke out at around 7:00 p.m. Friday night, and there were no injuries. However, a statement released by Afeni the next day (July 7) stated that her and her family were safe in the property’s main residence. At least three fire stations responded to the blaze, though no cause has been announced as of yet. The full text of Afeni’s statement is below.
“I would sincerely like to thank the professional & volunteer firefighters and our neighbors who quickly came to our rescue and helped extinguish the fire. We are truly blessed to have their vigilant and neighborly care. We were fortunate that no one was at the home at the time.”
