andre3000.jpgAndre “3000” Benjamin of Outkast is reportedly set to portray legendary crooner Sammy Davis Jr. in and upcoming film. According to the New York Times, music video director Earle Sebastian and former Roc-A-Fella co-CEO Damon Dash are joining forces to produce the project. Entitled Sammy and Kim, the film will detail Davis’ controversial relationship with white actress Kim Novak. At the time, interracial relationships were still considered largely taboo, and the romance almost ruined both Davis’ and Novak’s careers. Sam Kashner, who covered the controversy in Vanity Fair, will pen the screenplay with his wife Nancy Schoenberger. Sammy and Kim is one of four Davis related films currently in the works. Denzel Washington is expected to direct In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Jr., and Davis’ widow, Altovise. is working on Yes I Can, based on a 1965 book about her late husband. A documentary based on Yes I Can is also reportedly in the works.
