Former Waitress Sues Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club Over Unpaid Wages
A former employee of Jay-Z’s upscale Manhattan sports bar has filed suit against the club, claiming that she did not receive all of her wages. According to the New York Post, former 40/40 Club waitress, Celeste Williams, says that the popular nightspot typically withholds a cut of the staff’s tips and refused to pay them the required minimum wage and overtime. William’s suit, which was filed in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday (May 22), alleges that as many as 100 40/40 employees have been stiffed on pay. “I find that this is a rampant violation throughout New York City,” said her lawyer Maimon Kirschenbaum. The club’s management denied the allegations and noted that Williams was only employed there for four days in December 2005.
