busta1.jpgAlthough he was shut out of a New York City movie set after the NYPD expressed concerns about public safety, Busta Rhymes was welcomed with open arms by the city of Newark, New Jersey. According to the Newark Star-Ledger, the controversial rapper recently completed three days of filming for the movie Order of Redemption at the city’s Riviera Hotel and on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Busta, who has refused to cooperate with NYPD detectives in the investigation of the 2006 murder of his bodyguard Israel Ramirez, was denied access to the film’s Manhattan set last week. Busta’s lawyer, Scott Leemon, has suggested that authorities are unfairly targeting the rapper because of his refusal to cooperate in the murder investigation. Newark officials apparently have no such qualms. “As far as we know, Busta Rhymes was acting accordingly and we thank him for his business,” said Lupe Todd, a spokeswoman for Newark Mayor Cory Booker. Order of Redemption stars Tom Berenger and is described as a “urban thriller with a hip-hop feel” by producer Jason Webb. Berenger plays a former attorney who is trying to resume his career after a bout with drug addiction and family tragedy. According to Webb, Busta portrays a murderous villain who throws a baby out of a window in one scene.
