Kentucky High School Band Told They Can Not Open Show for Ludacris

ludacris.jpgA Lexington Kentucky High School band has been told that they will not be allowed to open up for Ludacris at a February 22 concert. This past weekend, concert promoter Jim Lunsford announced that the Lexington Bryan Station High School band would open the show for the rapper, but school officials have decided to pull the plug on the performance. According to the Associated press, Fayette County School Superintendent Stu Silberman explained that he was not familiar with Ludacris when Lunsford first made the offer. After a parent sent an email containing some of Luda’s lyrics, Silberman met with the school principal and the band director and decided not to allow students to attend the show. Lunsford has stated that he isn’t trying to judge anybody, but he wants feels the move is in the best interests of the students.

that is bullshit, teacher’s curse more than the damn rappers!

There’s no way they’d stop sylvester stallone if he was gna come to the school, and he does nothing but promote violence and shit. they wouldn’t stop the president either and he’s a damn crackhead. double standards man.

  • s.iam

what are you talkin about. it would have been one thing if he out right shot it down because he was a rapper, but he got some info from a parent of the school. i’m sure she wasn’t the only parent that felt that way either. it would be easier to not let the band open for ludacris and explain to the students why than to let them do it and have a sh1t load of upset parents to deal with. he was looking out for the school in the long run. i’m sure he didn’t have anything against hip hop or ludacris.

    I co-sign S.IAM,
Except these are HIGH SCHOOL kids, they arent middle school kids. I mean damn, when I was in 3rd grade I was bumpin 2 live crew and NWA. High School kids cant decide what is best for them to listen to? Loosen the reigns a little bit there tiger. Opening for a huge name like Luda would be awesome for that school and I think its a great idea.
I bet the dude wouldnt have got his panties ina bunch if the parent had sent them the Lyrics for runaway love.
Its just music man, people are so stupid. Besides lyrics are suggestive anyway, you can take what you want from em.

    1 hunned.

Thats fucked up when the superintendent is that out of touch with the students’ generation to allow them to miss out on such a rare opportunity that could benefit their futures and open their horizons. I’m not Luda’s biggest fan, I’m just keepin it 100. He hasn’t always been the most positive but he aint turning the kids out.

Well all you have to do is read most of your ignorant responses to realize rap has contributed enough to dumb ass kids. You idiots cant express yourselves without sounding like some damn slaves. Ludacris says some stupid shit half of the time so why should the school contribute to the deliquency of a minor?

  • jay

I’d sue the school because the peoplewho made that decision because of their political beleifs and the fact bill o’reilly smeared luda’s name to the upper class white folks

That’s fucked up. Dude judged Luda on his lyrics ONLY. Luda does so much good work for people through his foundation and that should be what really counted. The brotha gives back to the people.

  • johnson

its funny that their so concerned about a rappers lyrics you think that the school would be more concered with education or somtehing

  • Nanzzer

    Here’s what I wanna know… that
Bryan Station High School just got $43 million to build a new school. When Luda’s promoter Jim Lunsford called the school board sayin he wanted to donate $10,000 every time he brings a concert here, WHY did the school board point him to Bryan Station? I have three kids who will be paying $1300 a year out of pocket to be in the band of another Lexington school known as the “ghetto school”. Why didn’t the board SPREAD some of that money around to other schools instead of giving it all to Bryan Station? I’m ticked!

  • Shortylightskin

Fuck Lexington its all bout LOUISVILLE bitches. Most of Kentucky outside of the Ville is rednecks, bet.

  • http://www.myspace.com/choppergirl07 Chopper Girl

Ayy dude did what he thought was right!! It dosen’t matter because if ya got money then it shouldn’t matter!! Hell go to the nigga concert if it’s that bad!!

  • EAST COAST
  • mowood28

One Accord Entertainment chose to donate $10,000 to Bryan Station and will be donating the same to two other High schools when other concerts by various artists are produced in Kentucky. This is going to be done throughout the country.

The Ludacris concert actually has nothing to do with the donation, but in a world were a man such as Ludacris donates so much of his time to help children, how could anyone critisize….everyone has a right to their oppinions…but at the end of the day….dont take lyrics from 5 years ago and use that to make a point when the Luda’s body of work speaks for itself….

Sometimes when you try to do the right thing…there will always be someone to try and twist it and turn it into something wrong.

MY COMPANY IS THE PROMOTOR OF THIS SHOW. STU SILVERMAN TRIED HIS HARDEST TO MAKE THE CONCERT HAPPEN FOR THE KIDS, THE GUY WHO CAUSED ALL THE PROBLEMS IS FROM A LOCAL RADIO SHOW, ALL I WANT TO DO IS OPEN UP DOORS FOR THE KIDS, THATS THE BOTTOM LINE. WE HAVE LOST $200,000 DOLLARS IN SPONSORSHIP MONEY BUT, THE SHOW WILL GO ON AND WE WILL GIVE THOSE KIDS THEIR INSTRUMENTS, WE ARE GOING TO DONATE $10,000DOLLARS TO EVERY CITY WE GO TO THIS YEAR, IT’S ALL ABOUT THE KIDS, ESPECIALLY THE INTERCITY KIDS, THEY NEED IT THE MOST,THANKS FOR ALL YOU COMMENTS.

  • K

Concert promoters are offering to donate $10,000, band instruments, and an opportunity to open live for Ludacris and Silberman said no?? That’s insane! What world are they living in?? I guarantee you the majority of the children already listen to Ludacris and look up to him as role model. The kids will benefit greatly from One Accord’s generousity and if you ask me Jack Pattie, Silberman and the school board should just say “thank you” and shut up.

  • Lexington, Ky

I just finished reading some of the postings related to the Lexington Bryan Station High School band not being allowed to open up for Ludacris. Some of the comments are very immature, racist, and inappropriate.

My opinion when it comes to this situation is that first of all, the superintendent, school, and whomever else was involved in the decision making, should not have been allowed to stop it. Yes they may not agree to his music, but at the same time, you have to stop and think, how many of their students parents are going to allow them to attend the concert and even purchase the tickets for them. Instead of handling the situation the way it was handled, they should have sent permission slips home with the students to allow the parents to make the decision as to whether or not they would allow their child to participate in the opening act for Ludacris.

Making some of the comments that were made we just uncalled for. But like they say, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion!”

  • KOOLBOY

I AGREE WITH LEXINGTON. U DAMN RIGHT. THAT IS THE THAT IT SHOULD’VE BEEN DONE. FUCK WHAT THE SCHOOL THINKS. THEY SHOULD HAVE A MORE ORGANIZED WAY OF DOING THINGS BEFORE MAKING QUICK SPLIT DECISIONS. THEY NEED TO GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER. RIGHT ABOUT NOW I KNOW THEY PROBABLY SAYING THEY MADE A DUMMY MOVE. 1.
