Ludacris Beats out Janet, Scores Third Consecutive #1 Album

His 6th LP, Release Therapy, moved slightly over 309,000 discs, outselling powerhouse Janet Jackson’s latest by approximately 13,000 units. This impressive showing will also mark Luda’s sixth consecutive #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart. In another surprising debut, Weird Al Yankovic lands in the #10 spot after moving just under 73,000 copies of his latest parody album, Straight Outta Lynwood, powered by “White and Nerdy,” his comedic take on Chamillionaire’s “Ridin’ Dirty.” Elsewhere on the charts, Black Eyed Peas front woman Fergie slips to #9 after a 53% drop in sales of her solo debut, The Dutchess. Lupe Fiasco, whose first week numbers have now been adjusted following a Soundscan reporting error, slides to #32 after selling an additional 31,000 copies of his debut, Food & Liquor.

    Remember……TI’s album did well the first week but sales dropped dramatically the weeks followed. He’s not even double-platinum yet and this is after selling 500k+ albums his first week. Here’s some game……record companies look at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd week sales. TI came out of the gate like a Ferrarri but turned into a Ford Focus. Luda came out like a Corvette and from his history, will maintain that level. He’ll certainly go triple-platinum but I’m looking for him to go 5x platinum. Selling records is about coming out the gate strong and sustaining strong sales over an acceptable period of time. I don’t want to take anything from TI. The brother is talented but I’m talking from a business perspective right now. TI definitely made Atlantic’s money back but they are concerned about the drop off. Believe me.

Plus he is going to go against strong competition. He might be going against, Game, Buck, Banks, Jay, Nas, and all those Pop Artist. I mean I hope that it goes Platinum by December. But with all the sales drops and stuff and also the competition I still say February 07.

Yeah Luda had a good first week, but you really think he’s gonna go 5 times plat? even 3 times is a bit of a stretch. Most hip-hop fans go and cop the shit when it drops. Not many wait weeks to go get somethin’ they want to listen to, thats why everyone’s sales drop after the first week. Luda won’t be able to keep it up too long.     FLAVA DAV said he believes Diddy will cause Luda’s sales to decline. Let me see some supporting facts. I’ll give you my reasons why that’s not true. First, Diddy by himself, is not known for having chart-topping albums. His only solo project he did that made some noise was the one he put out right after Biggie’s death and people bought it because it had the LOX and Biggie all over it and because people were still mourning Biggie and were ready to grasp anything he was on. That Forever album didn’t go bronze. Secondly, Luda has stood the test of time. The game is at an all-time low as for talent. Luda sold millions of albums in Jay-Z’s prime, in Nas’ prime, in DMX’s prime, in Ja Rule’s prime, in Snoop’s heyday, in 50 Cent’s prime, dring the releases of the Tupac albums, in Nelly’s prime and in the ATL’s prime, and in the Houston, Tx surge. Not to mention, he fended off one-hit-wonders. He flourished in a time where you might see five or six rappers go triple platinum in one year. Now, you’ll be lucky if you get two rappers that go triple platinum in one year. And you’re telling us the current talent can knock this guy off. Please. Do your homework young man.

But I must sadly say, Luda not going plat right now maybe in Jan 07… But there’s only 2 rappers out that will go plat in a week. Kanye and Jay.     Man you guys got it all wrong. I wasnt comparing Luda and T.I. all I was saying is that its hard for a hip-hop act to go platinum now a days. One because hip-hop music isnt the “IT” music now. We all know that the white kids are the ones that make a rapper go PLATINUM. For that matter any artist. I bought Release Therapy and I like it. I actually bought 2, one for the car and one for the crib. Now on to my point, Luda would go Platinum by Feb 07 because there are more rappers and artist coming out at the end of the year. Plus when was the last time that a rapper entered the charts #1 and stayed there for a while. I dont remember but if someone does holla. It is hard for rappers to go platinum and to stay on top. Yea I do think that Luda would stay in the top 5 next week but I also feel that his units will drop. Now a days with the internet, ipods and burning of C.D. is good enough to go GOLD or Platinum witin months. I just hope that I am wrong and that LUDA goes Platinum by end of Nov. early Dec. Now thats what I call AGAINST ALL ODDS!!

    Also you guys are forgetting about other type of music that will drop in the 4th quarter. Im talking about country, rock, pop, punk rock. Just this Tuesday that new Killers C.D. came out, I bet it will be #1 next week.

    Ludachris is just a very consistent artist. For what every reason has been over looked. I’m guilty of this myself, but the disappointment from (THE KING) album made me realize that Luda stay on top of his game. And put it down no matter who in the rap game was hot. He always let the music do the talking. And no other artist don’t want to provoke him. That alone say’s how good he is. And how respected he has been. The fall back to that is he only has himself to push him. That’s some hard shit. It take discipline that’s. Someone that dedicated to the craft, quailty, and the audience. So ORIGINAL. I Thank The Music Gods For Luda. He keep the rap game fresh from different approach he takes topics. He’s whole outlook. And I wish to thank my son for hipping to Luda. You learned something from me after all how to pick the good one’s.

Ya’ll thought the Sony/Universal merge wouldnt affect hip hop? When you hear Nas and em say HipHop is dead they aint dissing the South rappers, they just tryna let you know that its no longer up to the artist and not even the fans to decide whats good or what sells, just like at Micky Ds you go for that new cheap burger on the big banner outside and all over TV. The South rappers have a style simple for anyone to mimic making it very easy to create your own artists, no skill level required.
