Diddy’s Press Play Debuts at #1

diddy.jpgWeeks of whirlwind promotional efforts paid off for Sean “Diddy” Combs this week as he landed the #1 album in the country with his fifth studio LP, Press Play. Diddy moved 170,000 copies of the new disc, beating out pop singer JoJo for this week’s top debut. Other debuts this week include Xzibit with his latest disc Full Circle, which bowed at #50 with slightly under 18,000 in sales. Hi Tek, who has helped craft hits for some of hip-hop’s biggest names, lands at #38 after moving about 22,000 units of Hi Teknology 2: The Chip. The Swishahouse compilation disc, The Day Hell Broke Loose 3, lands at #72 with just under 13,000 in sales.

I actually went out and bought the album thinking that Diddy wasn’t going to make too bad of an album, but I’m a huge bad boy fan and I can’t even make it to the mary J record, one of the two good record on there. He had some good writers, but Diddy can’t rap, never could. After all that promotion that he put in that’s all he got? He spent too much money for ads and that two hours on clear channel to do 170. Just shows you that Payola never works in the end because if people don’t like it, it doesn’t matter how much you pay DJs to play the record because if we don’t want it we won’t buy it.

Diddy cool but he’ll be lucky to go gold. He sold 50% of Bad Boy to Warner like a idiot. If this cd doesn’t go platinum then he’ll be in serious trouble. All that money alone that was spent on producers for the album. Yung Joc isn’t platium, Danity Kane isn’t platinum and Cassie isn’t even past 300,000 yet. That won’t get it with them. He better hope Danity Kane and Joc sell a million because he’s vunerable. Warner got 50% of Bad Boy and if he doesn’t shape up he’ll lose his company.

He had good production and still no progress.Only 170,000 picked his album up off the shelf. he also had to pay his ghostwirters for publishing.Pay attention to this and peace out cause Im out of “P” words punkasses!

    I like most people obviously got the good songs from the net free not to mention all the not so good songs. I went in looked at the cds but didn’t buy any. When we walk in to the record store and pick up that cd their ain’t gonna be any surprise. Why don’t they just change the game completly, i mean who in their right mind would go out and say pay 250,000 for 1 hit song when at beast you only break into 6 digits. Xzibit/Hi-tek knew and went small scale which is smart why go all out when it doesn’t sell not like a cheap computer. The big umbrellas gonna be fine but they are structured to take hits its the smaller ones the new ones that will not be offered the worlds markets and its gonna suck when all we get is mixtape cuts.
