Young Dro, Method Man and The Roots Debut in the Top 10

youngdro.jpgOn this week’s album charts, T.I. affiliate Young Dro lands in the number three spot with slightly over 104,000 units sold of his major label debut The Best Thang Smokin’. Powered by his hit single “Shoulder Lean,” Dro will also knock Outkast’s Idlewild soundtrack out of the number one spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts. Idlewild itself moved an additional 78,000 units this week and thus will remain on Billboard 200 at number seven. Also landing in the Top 10 this week are two Def Jam releases, Method Man’s 4:21 The Day After, and The Roots’ Game Theory. Meth will take the number eight slot with just over 62,000 copies sold and The Roots follow close behind at number nine, moving about 61,000 units. Elsewhere on this week’s charts, Bay Area legend Too Short lands at number 14 after selling about 40,000 copies of his latest, Blow The Whistle.

    A sane person would know that all niggas are niggas and that niggas originated from Africa. Real songs originated from slaves that landed in the south, because they sang as they picked cotton and worked for crackers in the hot sun. I believe blacks have natural soul and that it should not be a coastal thing because we are all bonded. If you really want to push the issue though, real soul comes from the south. A lot of you up north niggas have a whole lot of relatives from the south so don’t front. Go to a church in the south and you will see what I’m saying.     if The Roots and Method Man can crack the Billboard’s top 10 with basically no video and radio play, then i think you have to call that a success. especially this year. nobody BUYS music anymore so the terms of success have to be redefined. during the past couple years the biggest selling albums (Mariah’s The Emancipation Of Mimi, 50’s Massacre, Eminem’s Encore) have all topped out around 5 million sold. i think its time to say that 500,000 is the new platinum and 5 million is the new diamond. who in they right mind gonna buy some music nowadays? not me, and by the looks of the sales charts not a lot of other people either.

    This is how I feel. I agree some of the south needs to be a whole new category. I’m an east coast fan, and although I don’t hate the south, most of the lyrics are garbage, but the beats are tight. And now I’m like which is worse, preaching violence or preaching ignorance and throwing yourselves out there making a fool out of our people with your 24″ rims and all the ignorance. Be it east west, south or midwest, all that ignorance and violence makes our beautiful black people look ognorant and thats why we get no respect in society, and look at how we act in public, can’t we act like civilized responsible adults with some manners, morals and ethics. I’m veering from my point. I think nas is the deepest most real rapper out. I can’t think of anyone from south or west or even east that can match his lyrical poetry and talemt. Anyone can rap about rims paint woodgrain and make it rhyme with random words. Where are the real lyricaly talented rappers? and I bet no cat from the south can ever match cannibus on a freestyle battle or eminen for that matter. People like ll cool J bring a positive image for black folk, and while 2 pac spoke alot of truth he certainly didn’t lead by example. All the charges shooting at cops, I mean come on, can’t we act right, follow rules and be responsible members of society instead of acting like a bunch of damn crazy animals. Much love to the south, and they are getting better lyrics. there is alot of ignorant stuff on the radio they arent going to play the real lyrical stuff because this new generation don’t want to hear that they thrive on the ignorant teachings of these newer rappers who have no sense of purpose of self, only corrupting minds with ignorance to make their pockets fat. why do you think rappers like nas, method man don’t do alot of commercial stuff? they rap for the right reasons, love of hip hop. I also am a big fan of outkast, goodie mob and roots. ludacris is real catchy with the metaphors, although a little overdone at times. never the less, he is tight, and we can’t forget ugk and scarface.
