After a well-publicized split with former label Columbia/Sony Urban, Houston rapper Lil’ Flip has finalized a deal with Asylum/Warner Music Group, according to a report from Billboard. Flip left Sony in June, disappointed with what he viewed as an insufficient promotional campaign for his already completed album, I Need Mine, the follow-up to 2004’s platinum-selling U Gotta Feel Me. Soon after his departure, the album leaked onto the Internet, and rumors circulated that his now estranged former label was responsible. “All I know is my copy is watermarked, I didn’t leak it and the only other people that have it is Sony,” Flip told Billboard. He has since negotiated the purchase of the album’s master recordings, and intends to release it with Asylum in 2007. Flip joins several other native Texans already on the Asylum roster, including Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Pimp C, Bun B, Z-Ro and Trae.
