Rick Ross Sets Ringtone Sales Record

rickross.jpgDef Jam Records recently announced that Miami rapper Rick Ross has officially sold over one million units of the ringtone for his hit “Hustlin’.” The R.I.A.A. certification, which will be awarded at least a full week before Ross’s debut Port of Miami hits stores on August 8th, marks the first time an artist has had a platinum selling mastertone before the release of the accompanying album. “Ringtones are an amazing gateway to connecting with fans,” says Ross. “They really are the next level. It’s a beautiful thing that ‘Hustlin’’ is ringing on a million phones right now.”

    Its not about going plat with the album, Its about how he can market himself in other venues as well. Its not just about getting behind the mic anymore. He has to now turn this into something else… Something else that the whiteman will see profit in as well. YOU have to market yourself. I bet money that no other artist ever set out to go plat with a ring tone, but now that its happened he should seriously be looking at being a sponsor / spokesman for Verizon Boost or something of the sort, I mean he is already in the cell phone market technically. Ok I’ll stop here. Let me give the soapbox a rest. Bottom line is ni99@s are multi tasking. Keep hustlin
