omarcruz.jpgWest Coast sensation Omar Cruz and his label BYI Entertainment have reportedly inked a deal with industry powerhouse Universal Music Group. According to DubCNN.com, the Latino rapper’s as-yet-titled debut will be the first project released through the joint venture between BYI and Interscope/Geffen. Cruz, also known as the Latino Lyrical Assassin, has established himself as a force to be reckoned with on the underground L.A. mixtape scene since 2004 while working closely with producers such as Battlecat, Jellyroll, Javie Lopez and Rome of BYI. Rumors about an impending deal with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label ultimately failed to materialize. However, the legendary beatsmith has reportedly signed on to provide personal advice and guidance to the up-and-coming MC. Cruz’s latest mixtape, The Cruzifiction, drops today.
