Star, the co-host of Power 105’s the Star and Buc Wild Morning Show, was fired yesterday (May 10) for making sexual and racist threats towards rival DJ Envy’s family on air. In a recent edition of the show, Star threatened to track down Envy’s 4-year-old daughter and “R. Kelly” her, meaning to urinate on her and perform various other sexually degrading acts, as the R&B singer was accused of doing to an underage girl in an infamous sex tape. He also claimed to carry a gun, and offered $500 to any listeners who could tell him what school Envy’s daughter attends. Envy’s wife, who is of Asian decent, also bore the brunt of Star’s remarks. The shock jock, whose real name is Troi Torain, claimed to know sexually degrading stories about her and repeatedly called her a “slant-eyed whore.”
Queens City councilman John Liu and others held a news conference yesterday to call for Star’s dismissal. They played a recording of Star’s remarks as Envy’s wife, Gia Casey, looked on, eventually breaking out into tears. “I’m wondering what it will take for some measure to be taken,” Casey said. “Do I have to go down to the morgue and identify my child’s body before Clear Channel says, You know what, maybe they’ve gone a little too far?” Shortly after the press conference, Clear Channel announced that Star was being suspended while an investigation was conducted. Hours later, Clear Channel released a statement saying, “Power 105 finds recent remarks broadcast by Troi Torain of the Star & Buc Wild Morning Show to be wholly unacceptable. As of late this afternoon, he is no longer with Power 105.1 or Clear Channel Radio. We sincerely apologize to those who may have been offended by his remarks.”
