Proof’s Suspected Killer Turns Himself in to Police
According to the Detroit Free Press, a man police suspect of fatally shooting D12 member Proof early Tuesday morning voluntarily turned himself into authorities yesterday (April 12). The man, 28-year-old Detroit resident Mario Etheridge, was working as a bouncer at the CCC Club where the shootings occurred. Police have confirmed that Proof pistol whipped and then fired first at an unarmed 35-year-old man named Keith Bender, shooting him in the head and leaving him in critical condition. Etheridge, who is also Bender’s cousin, is suspected of then shooting Proof three times. “The understanding of every witness we’ve spoken to is that Proof pulled out a weapon,” Etheridge’s lawyer told the Free Press. “It was Proof that shot the first shot. Proof shot Keith in the face. And Keith was unarmed.” His lawyer also maintains that Etheridge did nothing illegal, and they plan to cooperate with authorities. A Detroit Police spokesperson has confirmed that if Proof was killed by someone trying to protect himself or others, he may not be charged with a crime.
