Where the hell is the EPMD tribute.

I am EXTREMELY proud of the fact that RAKIM is being honored. He is by far, still the greatest lyrist in the history of Hip Hop. But, I also belived it’s safe to say, that his greatest published work, was when he was part of a GROUP called, “Eric B & Rakim.” Although it was/is clear that it was/is RAKIM’s greatness that defined their place in history, Eric B should not be excluded. Despite the fact that it is rumored that Eric got credit for alot of production, that he didn’t actually do. He was still a part of the group and still shoud be included. Just as Jam Master Jay is considered to be a member of the group RUN-DMC. Let’s dialogue…….

  • B-boy

The Wu Tang Should be honored they made a good choice to honor their work because they came out with so much hot joints!!!!!!!

  • Tyrell

Why isn’t tupac being honored? Its been 10 years since his death..

  • http://xxlmag.com jubril

i will like 50cent to be honer. is a good artist.

  • Nika

5-0 cent don’t need to be honored. He is fairly new to the game. I’m glad that Eazy-E is being honered.

  • Jizzle

WHAT THE FUCK where is the nigga PAC. they put biggy on there last year he should have been in the first year. I mean all the dudes goin in are dope and there all hip hop legends especially Eazy and the Wu. but not putting Makaveli in the first last or this year is a real bitch move fuck you faggots at VH1 for leaving the best rappere to ever live in the Hall Eat a Dick VH1 all your shows suck to oh and sukadik suck a big dick

  • Jizzle

jubril you are gay and so is 50 cent his music and most of G-units is really gay the only hot albums to come out of that camp were Get Rich Or Die Tryin and The Documentary the others are straight garbage and you are too learn to spell and type retard

jubril you are a faggot who knows nothing about real hip hop

  • jojochicago

Easy E. this is on point and maybe a few years late but its all good! The man clearly deserves it. As well as the whole NWA. I hope to see his oldest son and daughter there as well NWA, and all the people this pioneer put on. Bone Thugz…Stand Up!

  • J-Mo

Jizzle get off the niggas nuts. Why wasnt Pac nominated or Dr. Dre or Bone Thugs. What the fuck they must have forgotton the West Coast was once on top.

  • Kid Poetry

imo afrika bambaataa should have been on the first one, but he deserves to be honored. this years’ honors should be hot…

  • jizzle

Fuck you J-Moe Im on your side nigga you bitch im on your side i want dre pac and to a lesser extent bone thugs in that hall (bone thugs is the best weed play, and i mean that in a good way) so you can stay on my nutz faggot

  • jizzle

    you bitch j-moe

  • http://www.myspace.com/southpeezy Maurice G.

To the concerned Pac fans out there…He was honored in the first Hip Hop Honors show in 2004. Nas performed “Keep Ya Head” in front of a please Afeni Shakur.

But my gripe is where is Outkast and/or Scarface?

And shid, can we get some Luke, like his music or not, he helped make it possible for rappers to express themselves however they wanted too.

  • http://www.myspace.com/southpeezy Maurice G.

also, if you gonna do Eazy…you might as well dedicate half the show to NWA as a collective and then do seperate Eazy, Cube and Dre segments.

  • http://xxlmag.com oliver

    i can’t wait

  • mc hzd

J-moe’s right. why no one mentioned pac, dre and bone.

  • truebrit

jizzle iz right bro 50 iz whack the game wipez the floor wit da bitch n e day

  • Catracho82

This years Honorees are all off the chain. Russell definetly deserves it for starting Def Jam; the Beastie Boys are legends; the Wu-Tang Clan, ahhh shit the dopest lyricist ever; Rakim finally got his shine; Eazy-its bout time;Afrikka-respect the founding father or the Zulu nation;MC Lyte-She did it up for female rappers. All in all it will be a very entertaining show.

  • jizzle

truebrit i feel you nigga finally a real rap fan on this website good lookin out nigga

  • _jAy_

They need to start honoring the producers

  • G’D UP

50 a wanksta. why he need all dis sercurity around. and dont say cause he got shot 9 times. he got shot 3 times. we need someone real to be honored & 50 aint one of them.

    GGGGGGGGGGG-UNOT!!!!!!

  • Bigron71

Pac was honored the very first year of Hip Hop Honors. Know your history.
    B-Boy since Birth

  • jizzle

Bigron71 i dont watch VH1 that network is whack so you can lick on deez nutz

  • Amani

Can we honor KRS one or Big Daddy Kane? OMG thank god their reppin the ladys my girl MCLyte.

  • G’D UP

WE DID HONOR BIG DADDY KANE. I THINK.

  • http://myspace.com/supatw SUPA

1st off, To let some people know that didnt know, Pac and Kane were already honored in 04 and 05.. 2nd, I think this year’s choices are perfect, even though Wu-Tang maybe being honored a little too early. But makin a movement the way did and in such an independent fashion, it’s easy 2 explain why they are being honored this year.

  • http://myspace.com/supatw SUPA

The Hip Hop Honors should’ve added Rick Rubin, Eric B (with Rakim) and the rest of N.W.A. with Eazy-E.

  • J. La Rock

I’m glad of all the nominees. Afrika Bambaataa truely deserves it and so do the Wu, although like mentioned, it might be too early. Yet they gave recognition to a lost burrough that had no say in hip-hop (Staten Island, if you’re not knowing) and they also had off-the-wall lyrics that topped almost all others in their time. Beastie Boys are probably the best white boys to ever do rap because of the fact they never faked it like Vanilla.

On the N.W.A thing with Eazy-E, I think they should’ve honored the whole group. People forget that Eazy wasn’t a rapper, Ice Cube wrote all his rhymes for him in N.W.A. Check the liner notes on Straight Outta Compton.

  • Naz

    what

  • Naz

NO DR DRE???????????????? COME ON MAM HOW CAN THEY MISS DR DRE AGAIN? NOT ONLY IS HE THE GREATEST PRODUCER OF ALL TIME THE DUDE IS A LIVING LEGEND. 1. Helped pioneer gangsta rap all with eazy e (r.i.p) and NWA.

    2. CHANGED RAP MUSIC AGAIN WITH COUNTLESS MULTI PLATINUM HITS AND ALBUMS ON DEATHROW RECORDS.

    3. Launched AFTERMATH ENTERTAIN MENT, and dropped artists like Eminem AND MORE RECENTLY 50 CENT AND THE GAME.

4.WHEN WILL DRE DROP DETOX HIS LAST INSTALLMENT OF THE CHRONIC TRIOLOGY.

    5. VH1 SUCKS FOR MISSING DR DRE OF THE LIST

  • Naz

I Totally agree that Eazy E should be honored, i just feel it’s a little too late. If it wasnt for eazy’s vision and style there would be rap but the run dmc, kanye west type rap, there would be no pac, biggie, jay z, 50, game, eminem, ludacris and so on. eazy was the first one to say no where doin it our way , we gonna curse we gonna be negative cause thass what we see, we the cnn of rap, we gansta rap cause we came from the gangs. How can people honor pac and big before honouring the late great eazy e. sure pac was dope, and big was sick but eazy e made it ok for them to have that gangsta style. Same fore dre and cube, if no eazy where would they be? Alot of people dont give props to the West Coast, And eazy e but then they all use the style the west invented. As for honorees id like to see Dr Dre, Ice Cube,Big Pun, jermaine dupri, russell simons, and too short, then diddy, master p.

  • Ak

Actually way before Eazy there was Just-Ice, Scholly D and the original B.D.P and other who cats pioneered the style Eazy E would be famous for in alot of their early interviews (N.W.A)gave credit to KRS one particularly the song 9mm goes bang as an influence. So in honoring Ice T, KRS (they did already) they actually got it right. 50 cent being honored? are you serious?? For what helping to dumb down hiphop..Next there will be a buffon award then Yin Yang and Lil John can be honored too.

  • blak

pac was honored in 2004! duh!

  • the don

WHATT PAC ISNT BEIN HONORED?? THAS B/S MAN..IN MY OPINON THIS IS WHUT THIS YEARS SHOW SHOULD HAVE LOOOKED LIKE 1. JAY Z 2. NWA 3. BONE THUGS 4. THE WU 5. SNOOP DOGG

  • http://aol.com R. Moreno

    Next year’s honorees: Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick,Dr. Dre,Public Enemy,Dj Kool Herc,Scarface,Ice Cube,& Nas. Anyone disagree with this?Holla back,what thizz it?

  • You-man

I dont understand how the hip hop honors VH1. do they reserch. So many groups has been left out, soloist from back in the golden era. The Crash Crew was not even mentioned. What about Brooklyns Divine Sounds, they rept BK to the fullest, even way before kane. i like kane but they should respect those who came first. VH1 seem to skip around the artist. What about EPMD. kOO mOE dEE how he was not honored amazes me. They mention him but it should be more than that. They did there thing just as good as the furiuos five, so they need to be respected. YOu had groups all over doing thier thing that did not put out records. Queens was rocking at the time Brooklyn was rocking, why just mention The Bronx. it was all over do mnore research about it. just my thought i know others feel the same

    YOu-man

  • THE MAN

    shout out to eazy-e

  • Ed in Harlem

WOW! It’s about time they recognize “Real”. As far as females go and even in Hip Hop as a whole, MC Lyte has definitely paid MAD dues yo! Nobody can front! Put Lyte up against any chick that’s been out.. Kim, YoYo, Latifah, Monie Love.. even the chicks I’m really diggin like Foxy, Babs or Remy.. none compare to the Lyte baby! … NONE!

  • mikeyatx

Dre has ghost writers and ghost producers. google . I must say he is a very wise business-man. This is some old school knowledge that alot of people turn the other cheek to. whether it be true or false alot of people that have worked with him, have chimed the same chime and I guess it is his money that keeps things hush. No disrespect I love the music that he puts out but there is very little honor in pimpin and claiming you the pimp of the year and did it without any hoes. I have always said When I grow up, I will write and produce and give credit where credit was sweated for. sorry it’s not Dre or Eazy day just yet.

  • mikeyatx

    Correction to above post

  • TSO

Ok.. To clear up a few things.
Ice Cube was added to the list since this was published. Excellect choice in my book and FAR more deserving than Easy-E (who couldn’t flow worth a damn and hardly wrote one lyric). I would incourage every one to research alittle before commenting about folks being left off. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_Hop_Honors for current list of honorees.

Here is my list of future honorees:
The Biz, Fat Boys, Marley Marl, Kool MOe Dee, Kurtis Blow, Ultra MCs, UTFO, Whodini, Doug E Fresh/Slick Rick, Busy Bee, Kid Frost, Cypress Hill, The Queen, Master P, Geto Boys, 2 live Crew, DeLa, EPMD, Tribe, Stet (1st HH band), … just to name a few off the top of my head from hip-hops golden age. They will get their day.

  • FanbutnotStan

    rakim-GOD MC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • edxited

Give credit where credit is due. Rakim is the greatest of all the time. But that’s just me. In my opinion to honor a lot of pioneering hip hop artist takes time. In due time artist like Hov, Nas, Snoop, and etc. will be honor. But they’re still going on. Even though the South is making noise, they’re still smashing it. To me another artist that should be listed as a honoree is Kool G. Rap. He’s to me is one the greatest lyricist and gansta storytellers. But like I said before, in due time. For my list next year:
Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo
    Too Short
    Luke
    Heavy D.
    Geto Boys
    DJ Red Alert

  • Jae Geez

I think everybody deserves the honors except for EzE, I mean it would have been better if you gave it to NWA as a group not just EzE.

  • Big Noodles, Harlem USA

I think all choices (Russell Simmons, The Beasties, Rakim (should have BEEN honored), Lyte & Bambatta are no-brainers) are correct EXCEPT: It should be the WHOLE NWA, not just Eazy & Cube…I think it’s a bit premature for Wu-Tang to be honored(much love; just not yet)…Now, for the GLARING OMISSIONS: Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick(nuff said), BDP, The Cold Crush Bros(PLEASE???), Kool Moe Dee & The Treacherous 3, The Fearless Four(the FIRST rap group to sign to a major label), Spoonie Gee, The Funky Four plus One More(the first rap group to appear on Saturday Night Live), The Crash Crew(The whole Enjoy Records era), Kool G. Rap (the FIRST East coast gangsta rapper), Busy Bee Starski AND Luv Bug Starski…check your history on all this VH1…stop going with the EASY picks, and do your homework..Oh yeah, for all those who think that Eric B should go in with Rakim, answer this: did Marley Marl go in with Big Daddy Kane? Even tho Eric B was listed as part of the group, how many people came out to see him? Seriously? He just did the beats…

  • http://NWA... FanbutnotStan

Eazy-E? dats it?? uh…….what happen to NWA? wats goin on here, dats just wrong. R they gonna fix dat? da fuck

  • Fee Bee

What about Whodini, why do they hate on these Pioneers

  • Fee Bee

What about Whodini, why do they hate on these Pioneers

  • http://www.xxlmag.com Da Lench Mob Fan

I have to agree that Eazy E should be honoured as he is the Godfather Of Gangsta Rap and he pioneered the whole West Coast gangsta rap scene and was the first rapper to actually tell people how they really felt without bein scared to do so. I will always feel that VH1 are biased as they like to honour acts like Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Salt N Pepa, Wu Tang Clan and The Notorious B.I.G who all come from New York. I personally think that VH1 sucks for honoring Biggie and Salt N Pepa before The King Of Compton- Eazy E. VH1 as always honors the rap acts who are commercial and hip pop, but they never want to honor the acts who meant somethin to rap and pioneered the whole culture. Where are Big L, Big Pun, Tha Dogg Pound, Snoop Dogg, Slick Rick, The Juice Crew and Ice Cube on the honorees list, there the real ones who should have been honored this year instead of acts like Beastie Boys and MC Lyte. Dr. Dre the greatest producer of all time should have been honoured in the first two Hip Hop Honors 2004 and 2005 but I guess VH1 were too scared to honor Dr. Dre the rap legend because of what happened wit Dre at the Vibe Awards 2005. Honor Dre you bitches, and honor my list as it is the true list of cats who should be fuckin honored.

  • MM

    RESPECT TO THE BEASTIES!!!

  • EVE

WHAT ABOUT POINEERS TO RAP LIKE STETSASONIC. THEY WERE THE FIRST GROUP TO HAVE A LIVE ACTUAL BAND AND THEY HAD ONE OF THE BEST HUMAN BEATBOXERS IN THE BUSINESS.

  • ricky g

fuck all u haters…why ismt vanilla ice nominated?….dam

  • Kiki

How do you get tickets to the event?

  • theogene mpigabahizi

all of u guys are crack heads , pac got honered in 2004 the first hip hop honers

  • CASTRORANX

-The Beastie Boys got flava, I agree they should be inducted. They def had( at least I know in NY) people recognizing them.
-MC Lyte is finally gonna get hers, she deserves it.
    -Gangstarr should be honored
-50cent just came out strong like 6 yrs ago, it’s too early for him. I wouldnt vote for him cause he sings too much.
    -EPMD should be honored, definitely.
-Scott La Rock should be honored as well as Big Pun and Big L.
    Pac was already honored.
I am sooooooooooooooooooooo happy the WU i getting honored.

  • CASTRORANX

YO MOST DEFINITELY….THE ENTIRE JUICE CREW SHOULD BE HONORED. MARLY MARL, CRAIG G., BIZ MARKIE, COOL V., DJ POLO, DJ MR. CEE, ROXANNE SHANTE,(THE REAL 1ST GIRL OF THE MID 80′S, BESIDES THE REAL OL’ SCHOOL RAPPERS LIKE SHA ROCK, LADY G, LISA LEE)EVEN MC CHAN THEY HAD HIP HOP BY THE BALLS IN THE EIGHTIES. THEY JUST HONORED KANE, NOW GIVE DAP TO THE REST.
    -UTFO SHOULD BE IN THERE.
-THE FAT BOYS SHOULD BE IN THERE.

  • ASIC

TRIBE SHOULD BE ON THERE! so should the rest of native tongue’s crew.

  • http://Eazy-ECPT.com Eazy-ECPT.com

Its about time Eazy-E is show the Tribute He deserves. Even though each pioneer contributed to the game, Eazy-E is the one who Revolucionized it and Changed it Forever.
Without Eazy-E their would be no, G Unit,Game,50Cent, DR DRE, ICE CUBE,2PAC,Biggie,WuTang,ETc.Etc. the list goes on

The #1 Eazy-E site on the web is
    Eazy-ECPT.com, tell a friend.

  • TrU HiP – HOP

I think itz about time the Beastie Boys Did get honoured because lets not forget they are pioners and, just amazing talents way before eminem was talking about killing and rapping his mom.In my opinion Beastie Boys are the only one’s holding it down For White Rappers WORD.

  • its da bay mayne

tupac should get honored this year. its his 10th year death anniversary! damn tupac should get honored at every hip hop honrs. hes the best mc ever! don’t get it twisted!

  • Gerry

    Everyone, listen
    2pac has been honored already
    Krs one has also
I am ok with this years honorees
Its about time Beatie boys got honored
    Rakim also
    Eazy – E is good
No one should even say to honor 50 or Nas or Jay-Z
    Its not there turn yet
They will get it, but first the legends and the retired rappers gotta be honored
    Then as the years pass
youll see Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem and all those guys get honored.

  • Gerry

    Next years Honorees
    Tribe called quest
    Doug.E fresh
    The Fugees
    N.W.A
Dj jazzy jeff and the Fresh prince
    Slick Rick
and they always put a girl mc in so
    probably queen or roxanne shante

  • Gerry

And another thing, I have respect for Eazy but,
He is not the godfather of gangsta rap
The whole N.W.A group broke down the doors for gangsta rap.
    Dr. Dre made the sound
    Ice Cube wrote the lyrics
    And Eazy-E performed it.
Eazy is good at performing, thats why he is a honoree.
I love all them guys from N.W.A. but lets keep it real,
There all actors of whats real out in the hood
Eazy-E,Dre,Cube all of them didnt do shit of what there songs said
    but
they let us know the reality of the ghetto and the police and to just give the Fuck tha police attitude
I Love them for putting Westide on the map for Hip Hop
    Eazy-E deserves the induction.

  • lyss

  • Nega

WHY ARE PEOPLE EVEN ON HERE ASKING AND MAKING SUGGESTIONS ABOUT SOMETHING THEY DON’T EVEN LOVE?!! IF YOU REALLY LOVED THE CULTURE YOU WOULD OF KNOWN WHO WAS HONORED ALREADY AND WOULDN’T BE COMPLAINING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO DESERVE IT. HIP HOP IS THE STREETS AND WHOEVER CAME UP FROM IT DID THEIR THING THE BEST THEY COULD. THERE ARE NO PRIORITIES OR CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER FOR HONOREES. YOU SHOULDN’T EVEN EXPECT THAT FROM VIACOM, VH1, MTV OR WHOEVER. IF THAT WAS THE CASE, PAC AND BIG WOULD BE ON THE BACK BURNER FOR ANOTHER 10 YEARS SINCE THERE ARE OTHERS LIKE DIVINE SOUNDS, COLD CRUSH, BUSY BEE, FAB 5, ROXANNE(S), WHODINI, FAT BOYS, SLICK RICK!!, JUICE CREW, STETSASONIC, RED ALERT AND PLENTY MORE WHO HELPED MOVE RAP MUSIC INTO THE ACCEPTABLE MARKET IT’S CLASSIFIED AS TODAY. ONLY GRIPE IS WHY NO GRAF, DANCE, OR DJ’ING INVOLVED. VH1, MTV, OR WHATEVER VIACOM IS MAXIMIZING ON SHOULD NOT BE RECOGNIZED AS THE PREMIER AWARDS SHOW. TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH… .ENTERTAINMENT AND THAT’S IT. REAL HIP-HOP IS NO LONGER EXERCIESED BUT TREASURED WITHIN SELF.

  • Masta Biz

I agree with R.L.Will.Son that Eric B should not be excluded.’Cause Rakim’s best stuff was with Eric scratching behind him. I am happy with this years honerees though, especially Ice Cube. But what about honering Slick Rick or Doug E Fresh. Or groups like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest

  • Natisha Brown

I think Nas should be honered because he been in the game for so many years and he still putting in work!!! He is the king of NYC.

What hip hop means to me.Hip hop to me is a hustle. It signifies and recognizes everybody in the struggle.Hip hop to me is a voice for not only people in the hood but for anybody who wants to make a statement.I love hip hop and always have.Hip hop brought people out of the struggle and gave them hope.It recognizes that shit is real and you should not be afraid and always stay true to who you are.RIP and love to everyone in the struggle.God is love.

When will they finally wake up and honor A Tribe Called Quest? Without them, there would be no Outkast, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Roots, Kanye West, Common, Lupe Fiasco etc… Remember, they gave Busta Rhymes his first real notice on Scenario. Tribe was real hip hop. Nothing phony. Give Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and the Abstract (Q-tip) their due.
