E-40’s Report Card Debuts at #3

e401.jpgVallejo, California rapper E-40’s ninth album, My Ghetto Report Card, will debut at #3 on this week’s Billboard album chart, selling over 94,000 units. This is 40’s highest position on the charts to date, besting 1996’s Tha Hall of Game, which peaked at #4. Report Card has been fueled by the Keak Da Sneak-featured single “Tell Me When to Go,” and marks 40’s first album since leaving long-time home Jive Records for Lil Jon’s BME imprint.

I’ve been listening to E-40 for over 10 years, and this has got to be his best material since “In A Major Way”. I’m really diggin’ that new sound that Rick Rock put together for him, and I’m glad that Lil Jon used his muscle to bring him to a wider audience. Have these haters given “Tell Me When…” a good listen. When’s the last time someone opened a verse with “Jesus Christ had dreads, so shake ‘em…”? (I will say I’m not into the Southern songs that are geared towards the end of the album. They’re not awful; it’s just forced.) You gotta be deaf, dumb, and blind to not love this joint. And since I’m Oakland (Yay Aaareaaaaaa!!!), I’m really feeling “Muscle Cars”. (Please make a video for that so people can see how you take an ol’ school car and make it your own. Anyone can take a Mercedes and put it on 22s.)
