Southside and Playboi Carti Stunt as Cartoons in New “Ain’t Doin That” Video
Southside is having a big week. Fresh off unleashing "Swervo," his latest collaboration with G Herbo, the 808 Mafia co-founder let loose a video yesterday (June 21) for the Playboi Carti-featuring "Ain't Doin That" from the producer/rapper's latest mixtape, Trap Ye Season 2.
The visuals feature Young Sizzle and Carti in cartoon form, acting out the boasts in their respective verses. Southside sets piles of cash on fire and peels out in a red Ferrari, while his guest calculates algebraic equations and sips lean in a hammock with your girl. The style is something like a traphouse Ed, Edd n Eddy, and we're here for it.
It helps that Southside spits one of the year's most underrated verses, counting the weight of his jewelry while praying to a higher power and cursing out haters. He opens with the memorable wordplay, "Hated on the Rollie and I still ain't got time/Geekin' on the lean while them hoes snorting lines/Nah I'm still the same nigga, no waitin' by the line."
Carti, meanwhile, continues to pull humor from the cyclical repetition of luxury brands and stock images, and his high-pitch yelp contrasts nicely with Southside's deep voice. "Pockets so thick, all in my Ksubi/Pockets so thick, they want to sue me," he raps with a smirk.
The "Magnolia" rapper is having a dope week in his own right, appearing at Paris Fashion Week in Virgil Abloh's first Louis Vuitton show. Carti also kicks off a tour in support of his May album Die Lit on Sunday.
