Since bursting onto the scene some half-decade ago, former XXL Freshman Joey Bada$$ has made a name for himself as one of hip-hop's foremost freestyle rappers. He continued to add to that legacy of dope impromptu rap sessions during one of his recent shows, when he freestyled over a minimalistic drum beat and the chants of an enthusiastic crowd.

During the freestyle, a decent portion of which was captured on video, Joey spits over chants of his own name. "Joey, Joey, Joey fuckin' Badass," the crowd chanted back-and-forth. Joey rides the shouts of the crowd as maybe only he can.

"Hardest muthafucka that you niggas ever seen/Walk up on the stage niggas already know it's mean," Joey spits, before going on for another 15 seconds or so.

Joey's been fairly quiet since dropping his latest album, titled All-Amerikkkan Bada$$, last spring. In the mid-2000s, that wouldn't be considered a lengthy gap in the release of new music, but in today's "drop loosies every few weeks or so" rap climate, it sort of feels like it's been a long while, even if he released a few Statik Selektah-produced gems this past summer. A couple of months ago, though, he said some new music was on the way. Making that reveal more exciting is the fact Joey's been in the studio with Diddy.

There's no telling when the new tunes will arrive, but you can enjoy Joey's new freestyle below.
