Conway, Boogie and More Spit in Shady 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher
Shady Records has slowly been building a roster of some of the best lyricists in hip-hop and its stable of artists were on hand for the Shady cypher at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards.
The cypher was released simultaneously with the announcement that Compton rapper Boogie had signed to the label, and he kicks off the cypher, showing why Eminem brought him aboard. "I'm a ratchet and a activist," Boogie rapped. "I slap a nigga, bag a bitch and show you that I'm braggin'/These rappers finna drown and get they stream on/We use your physical copy to roll our weed on."
Up next in the cypher was Westside Gunn. While the Buffalo MC didn't spit any bars, he did introduce his brother Conway. The Reject on Steroids artist came out swinging, calling out rappers as he spit, "I know everybody gon' have a Trump reference in the flow with a gun method, that's unimpressive/Rocking your little man-purse/Before you rap bet you had to pop a Xans first."
Griselda Records' Benny the Butcher closed out the cypher, rapping, "But on my court, it ain't no foulin'/I got your hoe stylin'/Somewhere off the coast eating smoked salmon/I said a prayer looking up to machine gun/Dead silence, all I heard was the money machine hum."
While Eminem wasn't a part of the Shady cypher, the rapper did spit his own freestyle, slamming President Donald Trump and shouting out Colin Kaepernick. "But this is his form of distraction," Em rapped. "Plus, he gets an enormous reaction/When he attacks the NFL so we focus on that in/-stead of talking Puerto Rico or gun reform for Nevada/All these horrible tragedies and he's bored and would rather/Cause a Twitter storm with the Packers."
