Wyclef Jean has never shied away from using his platform to shine light on injustices across the world, so it should come as no surprise that he's speaking out after claiming he's just been the victim of mistaken identity and wrongfully handcuffed by the LAPD.

The Carnival artist made his claim in a video he posted to Twitter. In the video, he is seen being handcuffed as an officer continues to talk to him. Being who he is, Wyclef makes sure to describe what he believes is going on even after being cuffed.

In the tweet accompanying his video, Wyclef notes that police were searching for a Black man wearing a red bandana. Wyclef just happened to be wearing his red Haitian bandana that day.

"In L.A. right now coming from the studio with T-Baby, and ya'll see the police have handcuffs on me, they just took off my Haitian bandanna," the J’ouvert artist says in the video itself. "That's what's going on with Wyclef in L.A. right now. They have me in cuffs for absolutely nothing."

XXL reached out to Wyclef’s representative for comment on the situation, and they provided us with this statement from the rapper:

“I was asked by the police to put my hands up. Then I was told, ‘Do not move.’ I was instantly handcuffed before being asked to identify myself and before being told why. In the process I said my name and told them they have wrong person. They proceeded to ignore me and I was treated like a criminal. I am sure no father wants his sons or daughters to see him in Handcuffs especially if he is innocent. As someone who has law enforcers in my family, I was appalled by the behavior of the LAPD.”
