Buddy has been on many listeners' radar since he inked a deal with Pharrell's I Am OTHER imprint in 2011. Since then, there have not been any breakthrough moments for the Compton MC, but that could change very soon. The rapper crafted a true gem in his new single "Shine" produced by DJ Khalil and Mike & Keys.

Fresh off the single's release, Buddy returns to the track for a new music video. Director Andy Hines does a great job a capturing the aspirational vibe, which Buddy sets the tone for with his rhymes.

“Driving through the fog with my high beams putting on my Visine/Let me tell you just what I seen/Angles falling from the sky/I just hope that they can take me/Back to where the pearly gates be/And I been counting down the days because I know we gotta die soon/That just means I get to fly soon/And I know I’m not the only one out here that’s not afraid,” he raps.

The song has a motivational quality to it, and that is not by chance. Buddy looked to create something brimming with hope.

"'Shine' is a ghetto hymn acknowledging inevitable death while showing gratitude for abundant life," Buddy told The FADER. "It's written from the perspective of an optimistic young black male growing up in Compton as he thrives for enlightenment through all adversity."

"Shine" serves as the lead single for Buddy’s upcoming album, which is scheduled to drop in the first quarter of 2017. XXL will keep you posted on the release in the coming months.
