A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's come-up this year has been has been pretty remarkable. The "My Shit" crooner went from a local Bronx rapper to opening up for Drake at Madison Square Garden in a matter of months. When he spit "Gotta buzz now, this a lightyear," on "I Know What's Real," the first song on his debut mixtape, Artist, he truly wasn't lying.

Although the sounds of A-Boogie have plagued the radio this summer, like most new artists, the public knows very little about him. From his untraditional stage name to how hard he reps his hometown of Highbridge, people are familiar but are unaware of the backstory. At  20 years of age, next to Desiigner, A Boogie whose real name is actually Artist, is the hottest new act to rise out of New York. And he's done so without guidance from any of the key players in hip-hop but by reaping the rewards solely from the grind of Highbridge the Label, a former indie that inked a deal with Atlantic Records this year. A Boogie's rise was fast but unarguably untraditional.

XXL recently caught up with A Boogie in efforts to get to know him a little better. In a no holds barred conversation, the "Bando" rapper detailed his path to the spotlight and explained the inspiration behind his music. He also gave us a snippet of what he's got up next and voiced his hopes to reign the rap game. Check it out in the video above.
