Debating is a huge part of hip-hop. Time and time again we’ve witnessed the top 5 MCs conversation go down in the barbershop with each one more heated and intense than the last. For this reason alone, XXL decided to launch The Great Hip-Hop Debates.

Each week, XXL‘s EIC Vanessa Satten and Sirius XM’s Torae sit down with some of the top experts in the music industry to hash out some of rap’s age-old controversies. It’s a no-holds-barred, everything goes type of discussion with every panel featuring new guests and new topics. We’re shooting it real and giving it to you straight.

On this installment, Vanessa and Torae are joined by ThisIs50's Jack Thriller and Power 105's DJ Suss One. The group sits down to speak on the topic of Internet-era babies not being up-to-date on their hip-hop history yet being gatekeepers in the game. They also touch on the "Esco" fiasco during which Twitter users attempted to crucify XXL for calling Nas "Esco" in a picture alongside Diddy and Future. Many rap fans of the younger generation assumed the Queens MC was being mistaken for Future's DJ, DJ Esco, and the whole ordeal caused "Esco" to trend on Twitter for hours. Bottom line, the kids were not aware of Nas' former alias. They didn't do their homework.

This is the third episode of XXL’s debate podcast, “The Great Hip-Hop Debates.” Check out the video above or listen to it on iTunes here. Also peep episode one and two below.
