It’s been 10 year’s since Juicy J, Crunchy Black, and DJ Paul of the Memphis crew Three 6 Mafia shocked themselves and the world when they won an Academy Award along with Cedric "Frayser Boy" Coleman for their Hustle & Flow song “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp." On that epic night at the 78th Academy Awards Triple 6 became the first rap group to ever win an Oscar. With the Oscars coming up on Sunday DJ Paul recalled the faithful evening, which included a rare softening encounter with Salma Hayek.

After Three 6 hit the Oscar stage to perform the track with Taraji P. Henson, DJ Paul and the crew were sure they weren’t going to win the award. He even tossed their thank you speech provided by his lawyers. We were like, "Man, we don't need this paper. We're not going to win. F— that paper!" DJ Paul told the Hollywood Reporter in an exclusive interview. But when Queen Latifah announced their name, the reality set in. “We went crazy. We turned around and started running and jumping. I think Taraji P. Henson might have run up onstage.”

While winning the trophy was great, one of the most memorable moments of DJ Paul’s Oscar night experience came at the after party when he ran into his crush Salma Hayek. “We get in a limo with John Singleton, and we head to the Vanity Fair party. Everybody's there. Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons are there. Salma Hayek walked up to me — who I was super in love with because of From Dusk Till Dawn with George Clooney — and said the craziest shit: "You know your brothers and sisters are dying over in Africa because of all this jewelry you're wearing."

Paul wasn't expecting to hear that from the sultry actress. Surprised by her comments he responded: "What?! What are you talking about? I don't have no brothers and sisters in Africa!" That's when all of her sex appeal went out the went out of the window. “And like that, Salma Hayek killed my hard-on,” Paul said. “I just went limp. I told her it was nice meeting her and walked out away from that.”

Three 6 left the party shortly after that, but for DJ Paul March 5, 2006 will forever be remembered as the night he won a coveted gold trophy and the night Salma Hayek to his solider from attention to at ease in a matter of seconds.
