For the second straight year, Top Dawg Entertainment hosted a free concert and toy giveaway in the Watts section of Los Angeles, California. Joining Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad and SZA this year were Ty Dolla $ign and Big Sean, who popped up as surprise guests during the free show.

TDE had the support of the city of Los Angeles to make sure the event took place with the proper funding and organization. According to MTV News, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti's office, the Housing Authority of the City of L.A., the City of Watts, Guerilla Union, Parks and Recreation, LAPD and LAFD were all supportive of the charitable endeavor.

“In cities like Watts, Compton and South Central, a lot of these kids don’t get to leave their neighborhoods,” Top Dawg president Dave Free told MTV. “They don’t get to go to these shows. They don’t have the resources, money or opportunities to be in these environments, to be submerged in music, culture and different elements. To me, that’s an important thing. That’s what I see in all these families, in their faces, that excitement.”

Families began to line up at 7 in the morning and kids were treated to sneakers, dolls, footballs, instruments and more. Before the day was over, around 10,000 people showed up to the event.

For Jay Rock, seeing the struggling families come out to enjoy the day and pick up gifts hit particularly close to home. “The worst Christmas was when moms couldn’t get a nigga nothing and a nigga had to do what he had to do to get it,” the MC said. “I wanted things she couldn’t get. I wanted Jordans, but I had to get Rugged Outbacks. I had to take it for what it was worth, but now I’m able to give back and it feels real good.
