The Weeknd's transition from mysterious, debaucherous R&B curiosity to full-fledged pop star has been so quick and so thorough as to be disorienting. Where the Toronto native was once known for hazy, slinking mixtape cuts that reveled in their salaciousness, he's shaped up, found the requisite industry-approved co-writers and producers and taken over both radio and the pop charts, and cropped up in once-unthinkable environments like last night's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Today (Dec. 9), he lets loose of yet another sure-to-be blockbuster video from his Beauty Behind the Madness. The clip for "In the Night" blows its running time up to six-and-a-half minutes, complete with quiet transitions and enough B-movie scenes to fill an alligator pond.
