Though J. Cole has loudly put on for his native North Carolina whenever he gets the chance, it's no secret that part of his early crossover appeal was a fluency in the language of New York hip-hop. Fayetteville's favorite son had the same punchline- and autobiography-driven hip-hop that had been missing from NYC's mainstream entries at the beginning of the decade, so it made sense that the St. John's student would align himself with Jay Z and take over the mixtape circuit. Now, one of his artists, the Queens-bred Bas, is injecting some Southern gruffness into his own music. "Housewives," which appears on both the Dreamville Records compilation Revenge of the Dreamers II and on Bas' upcoming solo album, Too High To Riot, today (Dec. 11) gets the video treatment. It comes complete with scantily-clad models and urges to mind your own business, as it should.
