Though one of today's most promising young rappers just dropped a song that uses him as a touchstone, Nelly is still churning out hits like it's his birth right. The man who put St. Louis on the mainstream hip-hop map is a decade and a half into his career and is still courting the pop charts, as evidenced here by his video for "The Fix." The song pairs Nelly with Jeremih, the budding star from Chicago who has nonetheless struggled to secure a release date for his Late Nights album. "The Fix" is a DJ Mustard- and Mike Free-produced reworking of Marvin Gaye's seminal "Sexual Healing," and aims for the same kind of late-night jugular. Nelly's last album, 2013's M.O., opened to tepid reactions from critics and retailers, but one would imagine that the pieces are now in place for a minor renaissance.
