Danny Brown Calls Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire “The New Biggie Smalls” [Video]

Detroit MC Danny Brown believes that beloved rap legend The Notorious B.I.G. finally has a successor.

During a recent interview with XXL backstage at the magazine’s Kendrick Lamar Hennesey show in New York City, Brown proclaimed fellow up-and-comer Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire the next B.I.G.

“Nobody even said it, but to me eXquire is the new Biggie Smalls—Biggie before Puffy touched him,” he said. “[He's a] Big Brooklyn nigga with bars. The verse from [his track] ‘The Song That Never Ends’ is the best verse of the year. Real recognize real. He’s the new Biggie for New York. I see it.” [Watch below]

Hailing from the Crown Heights section of BK, eXquire has been building quite a buzz for himself over the last year with his 2011 mixtape, Lost in Translation, and his holiday tape, Merry Christmas, Suck My Dick.

But it was the grimy video for his song, “Huzzah,” that put X on the map. The clip for the song’s remix, “The Last Huzzah”—which also features Danny, El-P, Despot and Das Racist—also made noise with its play on the classic “Flava In Your Ear” video (another Biggie connection).

“I feel how other people fear it ’cause [I’m] just someone coming from Detroit, but I guess we on the outside looking in,” Danny added about his Mfn eX comparison to Biggie. —Jesse Gissen (@JesseXXL) and Mark Lelinwalla (@XXL_Mark)

hmm anytime you say someone is the next Biggie, they get a lot of attention.. Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire is nice though

  • ron_ron

that song esoteric produced on his lost in translation album was on repeat for about a month he killed it, bright future for this kid

  • brooklyn jay

its a risky statement for danny brown to make. Danny himself is just becoming known, it doesent make sense to call exsquire biggie when exsquire doesent have any work yet. Both danny and exsuire are good, but this is a very pointless endorsement at this stage in their careers. BIG is a legend, he was all around Greatness, not to be taken lightly.

  • DC

If You Compare an Artist to Biggie Smalls your setting yourself up for failure, i went n check out that eXquire dude, n instead of thinking, “he kinda good” i was think “hes nowhere near as good as biggie” bold but stupid statement from danny brown, he just lost ALL Credibility with me..

    • honeybee77

@DC I think Danny Brown is simply saying that they are both very raw!!!! Do you understand what he means? it’s not that he is saying dude spits the way Biggie did, I saw this dude perform and I agree with Danny Brown 100!!!! this dude future is surely shining!!!!

    • Roman

      word up, dope kid tho.

  • Hip Hop head Genius

    • Thunder

@illmactic why are you dissing danny brown for stating is opinon? You might think he’s whack looking, but not everyone feels the way you do. There many people that vibe with danny and exquire, I happen to be one of them these dude’s are the future of rap. Stop being afraid of change it’s a sure fact that you don’t know where the rap game is heading right now, Do you that we are in the 21 century? and their styles are fresh and new up your rap IQ!!!!!

im not into that homo look thunder or listening to any queen talking whats wrong with being a Strong MAN in this country thats what GOD put us here for/ im not bashing be who you are im not feeling what the wack industry is pushing

        • funny

haha im sorry but this cant be real. i think people stopped talking like this in the 50′s when they realized it sounded more “homo” than what they where bashing… oh yea and gay rights came about

        • Thunder

It’s not about being a homo! He has the gutts to be who he is and not worry about what you think or any one else thinks. I respect the dude for having gutts to strictly be himself, it’s crystal clear that you don’t have the gutts to be who you are without worrying about what other people think.” That’s what being a man is truly about Believeing in oneself.”
