Sunshine wasn’t as bad as people claim and if it had come out from 98 – 01 a/k/a the Jay-Z Can Do No Wrong period, it would’ve been the biggest hit ever.

I thought “Lucky Me” was always unfairly criticized – he says some shit on that song! And of course the street joints are legendary. From 4 – 7 and 10 – 14, it’s all rewind that again material. “Imaginary Player” is one of the most underrated songs in his library because of the impact it had on the game…

The sad thing is Sunshine goes harder than a lot of the stuff folks consider dope nowadays. Because back then you even had to try and be witty on your lame pop cuts. Now it is all Degrassi but I digress.

The only WACK cuts on that album were “I Know What Girls Like,” and “Sunshine.” “City Is Mine” was my SHIT! “Sunshine” was horrible though. Not to mention that video. That’s what bodied that album’s mainstream/street appeal…

I couldn’t agree more. I know a few people that like Vol. 1 over Reasonable Doubt and they were fuckin’ with Jigga way back in ’94. I think people got turned off to “The City Is Mine” and “Sunshine” but some of his best cuts evar are on that album.

Gee, thanks Avenger. LOL. And you’re right P, first impressions go a LONG way, and though Canibus had a dope 2nd album, that 1st one pretty much buried his career. Same with Bubba. Sidenote, Jigga’s 2nd album, In My Lifetime Vol. 1 was off the meatrack. I don’t get how heads never caught on to that one…

I don’t buy into much the infamous O has to say. I think he is just another in the pocket media pawn in the game of crap hop. Honestly I have seen him give a hood rating to some suspect hood driven stuff, while given a lower rating to records like will roush though I agree with him in this instance.

What up O…I have a few thoughts here:

First, I think you’re right about Bubba/Em but like you said Bubba did it to himself as well. His 2nd album [Deliverance] was excellent but much like artists that miss their opportunity [i.e. Canibus] the first time around, the second album may be crack, but no one is listening.

Secondly, it’s tough to get a better set of co-signs in the mixtape game than Skee & Whoo Kid.

Third, you have to be more than funny to make a dent. There are a million (literally) rappers that make witty lines and clever schemes. You need more.

If you gave it a “HOOD” rating, I’d check it out but based on your review, I’ll pass. Good work as always…
