Rude Jude Rates Artists From XXLMag.com’s The Break
Three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), a new artist is featured on XXLMag.com’s The Break. An ideal destination for fans, artists, and industry members, The Break showcases up and coming talent, giving a brief introduction on the artist or group, and highlighting some of their standout music. Each month, industry insiders will team with XXL to rate and comment on the submissions.
For the month of August, Rude Jude—who will serve as one of three judges—checked out the section to see what yesterday’s talent (Troy Noka) had to offer. Check out his comments below.
Here’s the deal with this guy, he can make it. He’s talented. I checked out “Till I Can’t Go” his Kanye-esque power ballad and I was immediately taken by the piano on there. Then he started in with the auto-tuney computer voice bullshit and he lost me, but hey I’m 34, I like Zapp and Roger, I hate that new school robot-throat shit. Then he started rapping and he kind of got me back, he’s good but his style is derivative. He sounds a lot like all the other rappers out, Kanye, Drake, etc. That’s not that big of a deal, only old people and smart people will give a fuck about that and let’s be honest that’s not who rappers are selling to anymore, they’re selling to 12 year old white girls, and they’ll eat this shit up.
