For every Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, there is an equal and opposite Ray Cash from Ohio. Hailing from Columbus, Fly.Union hopes to continue the tradition of Midwest success set by the former with their latest offering, TGTC: The Greater Than Club.

More Hi-Tek than Bow Wow, the trio of Jerreau, Iye and Jay Swiffa are a bi-product of the Midwest soul hop galvanized by Reflection Eternal’s Hi-Tek, and that influence is evident on the bouncy lead single “Hard Sell,” the introspective “Look Up TO The Sky” and the slow-moving “5000.” With Iye and Jay Swiffa primarily providing the backdrops, Jerreau is often servicing the raps solo, and when in the zone, he comes correct. This is evidenced on “Salutations,” spitting, “I promise to leave with more than what I came with/Opportunity knocked, and she ain’t left since.”

A little lengthy for its own good, The Greater Than Club is a fine formal introduction to the next up from the Midwest. —Meka Udoh
