Vic Mensa speaks. Today (Oct. 17), the Roc Nation rapper drops off a new song by the name of "Empathy," which finds the rapper reflecting on his troubled past and the controversy that's surrounded his name recently. The new track comes after BET aired his controversial, XXXTentacion-dissing freestyle in a cypher during the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards last night.

"In response to all the controversy... Empathy," Mensa writes in a tweet, which includes the new audio-visual.

On the track, Mensa seemingly alludes to the bad press he incurred when he dissed the late XXXTentacion for his alleged abuse of a pregnant woman (X's ex-girlfriend) two years ago. If you recall, it was after reports of Mensa's X diss that people pointed to Mensa's own self-reported history of domestic violence. In his 2016 song, "There's Alot Going On," Mensa admits to having choked his ex-girlfriend.

With all of the above factors in mind, it looks like Mensa could be addressing the entire situation in different chunks of his new song, which is a track filled with self-criticism.

"They say you shouldn't cast stones from a glass home/The whole world wanna see my fall, but I stand strong/I say what's right, but they don't hear me 'cause my past wrongs/I got so down on my luck, I made it a dance song," Mensa raps on the new track.

Elsewhere on "Empathy," Mensa references his past, which included instances of him mistreating the women he dated. "Reflected that on the women I've loved and left/I got a call from my ex, she forgive but can't forget/I was just keeping it a stack, but all of my good intentions turned into bad press."

The visual accompaniment for Mensa's new song sees someone spray painting the word empathy on a back wall. It's simple, but it looks pretty cool. Maybe we'll get an actual video for the track soon.
