Tierra Whack Unleashes Innovative 'Whack World' Audiovisual

Tierra Whack is welcoming you into her world in the best way possible.

At midnight (May 30), the Philly hip-hop newcomer released 15 crafty, one-minute Instagram clips of her audiovisual project, Whack World. Directed by Thibaut Duverneix and Mathieu Léger, the visual and audio experience features Tierra changing outfits as she switches to a new track and abstract scene, playing up the song titles with each visual.

In the first bit, a song titled "Black Nails," Whack, who raps and sings, tells a story through nail art as she slowly reveals a horrific, swollen face for "Bugs Life." Other scenes include the singer acting as a taxidermist for "Flea Market," which later ties in to her song "Pet Cemetery," where she dances with sock puppets. Another notable song and clip is "4 Wings," where she pays homage to her native Philly and sing-raps about "salt, pepper, ketchup and hot sauce," a common combination on top of fries in her hometown.

"I ain't have no GPS/When I was sick ain't nobody go to CVS/They just wanna see me stress/They don't wanna see me blessed," the "Upside Down" rapper spits on "Waze" as the room fills with fake soap suds in the closing scene.

Tierra Whack broke out onto the scene with her standout mumble rap track and visual, "Mumbo Jumbo," which, like Whack World, took comedic twists and turns as the video plays out. When XXL interviewed her for The Break, she attempted to explain her artful approach to music, stating, "I can’t describe my sound. That’s something I don’t ever think about and I kinda don’t want to think about it. I like to create whatever that pops up in my head, bring whatever idea to life. People compare me to the people I listen to, the people I’m influenced by, André 3000, Missy, Busta. That’s about it."
