Tobi Lou is in the building. Today (April 27), just about two months after dropping off his Smino-assisted "Troop" video, the Chicago rapper pulls up with his Tobi Lou and the Loop EP.

Filled with half-sung rapping and a bright, melodic soundscape, Tobi Lou's five-track project is a breezy, lighthearted offering that sounds like a humid spring day. Naturally, it's a vibe that could also carry over well into the summer. The cartoon artwork for the EP echoes the upbeat vibe of the whole project.

The audio textures of Tobi Lou and the Loop are perhaps best typified by "Darlin," the third track on the new project. On the song, Tobi goes into a stream of conscious flow as he floats over warm strings. "I don't think I'm ready, no/Not for that jelly, my honey like Winnie the Pooh/That strawberry got me very temporarily out of order in the booth/I don't got nothin' to do/Feel like I'm stuck in a loop (woo)," he half-sings on the track.

Tobi Lou and the Loop precedes the rapper's forthcoming debut album, which will be produced by No I.D., who played a major role in crafting the soundscape for Jay-Z's 4:44 album.
