It's been a slow grind for Rich Homie Quan. Today (March 16), the Atlanta rapper, who first burst onto the scene with the 2013 hit, "Type of Way," finally drops his debut album, Rich as in Spirit, via Motown.

The album is spearheaded by the singles "Changed," "Understood" and "Bossman." As his major-label introduction, RHQ gives himself top priority on the allotted space, as 16 of the 19 songs are solo cuts. The only feature on the release is Rick Ross on the track, "Think About It."

Rich Homie Quan's career thus far has been a curious case. After starting with early success, he hit some roadblocks. After aligning himself with Birdman's Rich Gang in 2014, the "Walk Thru" rapper separated from the outfit and fell out with frequent collaborator Young Thug the following year.

He sued his former label T.I.G. in 2015. The litigation eventually ended in a settlement in 2016. Legal issues also threatened to derail his shine, but last February, he got a new lease on his career when he inked a new deal with Motown.

"I just want me a Grammy. I want to bring a Grammy back to Atlanta, you know what I’m saying?" he told XXL. "I just want the Grammy in the end. I’m trying to make stadium music. I know I can. I know where I’ve been. Now I want to make stadium music, that’s where I want to go."
