ASAP Rocky Unloads New Song “Money Bags Freestyle (Dean Blunt Meditation)”
A$AP Rocky's musical onslaught continues. On Thursday night (Jan. 25), the rapper unloaded a brand new track to his AWGE SoundCloud page, this one's called "Money Bags Freestyle (Dean Blunt Meditation)."
Rocky's latest is a tranquil, semi-free-associative meditation on money, fame and the envious enemies they bring out. "I foresee the jealousy inside your eyes for sure, sure/They don't wanna beef with my physique, or my 4-4," he spits on the woozy track.
The new song samples from U.K. artist Babyfather's Dean Blunt and Arca-produced track, "Meditation." It sounds like Lil Yachty chimes in with some drowsy chanting as the song fades out in the last part of the song. All in all, it feels just as loose and experimental as Rocky's too latest tracks, "Above" and the DRAM-assisted, "5 Stars."
Rocky originally uploaded those tracks with some curious artwork that included a car wheel with a "Testing" sign sitting in the center. For "Money Bags Freestyle (Dean Blunt Meditation)," he's uploaded a cover with the word "Dummie" written in black letters overlaid onto a yellow background. Why's he doing this? We have a feeling he'll give us a better idea of why in the near future.
What's drawing all of these tracks together, though, is the promise of a new Rocky album, and its experimental nature. He spoke on the sounds of his new project in a GQ Style interview last fall. "My new album is really about testing new sounds," he revealed.
He continued, "People are scared to test new sounds, so they go with what's current 'cause it's the easy thing to do. The top 100 songs sound a certain way. People cater more to that because it's a bigger demographic behind that, or it's a guaranteed demographic behind that. I prefer to experiment and have my crowd grow with me and to reach new crowds. I don't just rap—I actually make music. That's why it takes time. These sonics represent me."
