One of the refreshing new faces in The Bay area right now is Rexx Life Raj. The former football player turned rapper is gearing up to release his new album, Father Figure 2: Flourish, on Nov. 17. The project will feature guest appearances from G-Eazy, Russ and others.

Most recently, Rexx dropped the video for "2Free," a song that finds the budding spitter rapping on a boat. Shot at Lake Merritt in Oakland and directed by Gino Mancuso, the video has additional significance because of its location. "Shooting at the lake was significant because sometimes I find my self floating through my mind, on an undersized children's canoe, in an ocean of irregular thought," says Rexx.

Father Figure 2: Flourish follows up Rexx's impressive debut project Father Figure, which was released in 2016. The theme of the forthcoming LP follows the idea from the first project—Raj giving listeners "game."

"Typically a father figure is someone who gives game and wisdom in hope that it makes the journey easier for other people," explains Raj. "These songs are grounded in feelings/life-experiences that I've been through/learned from and I want to share those with the world. It's easy to rap about material things, i.e. money, jewelry, clothes, but it's harder to be vulnerable and open about trials, tribulation, and emotion."
