Joyner Lucas Plays a Crooked Cop in “Winter Blues” Video
Joyner Lucas is one of the most creative rappers in hip-hop. He always supplies his fans with innovative music videos that act more like short films than regular rap visuals. His latest video is for "Winter Blues," which is a standout track off Lucas' 508-507-2209, his debut major label LP. The video was direct by Ben Proulx.
"Winter Blues" is a song that tells the story of a man who does whatever he can to battle poverty. In the music video, viewers find the Worcester, Mass. native posing as a cop while he goes on a robbing spree. Even though the song was heavy for Joyner Lucas to write, the video takes a comedic approach.
"When talking about coming from nothing and at the same time the ones who do have it abuse it, I wanted to show people what that looks like visually," Joyner tells XXL. "Although this song takes me back to a negative place in my life, the video was a lot of fun shooting. This was one of the few videos I shot where I didn't actually have a video in mind when I wrote it, but instead came up with the idea afterwards."
