Without any advanced warning or context, Earl Sweatshirt has released a new instrumental track titled "Pelicula" via Apple Music. What's all the more peculiar is that word of the track did not come from Earl himself but rather via his Connect page on the streaming service. His last tweet dates back to July 9 while his latest Instagram post came a week ago in the form of a promotional flyer for a show he had with Knxwledge in Los Angeles. Listen to "Pelicula" above.

While Earl's online presence has been missed, he has appeared on TV in recent weeks guesting on Action Bronson's new Viceland show Traveling the Stars: Ancient Aliens with Action Bronson and FriendsBeyond that though, not much has been heard from the Odd Future rapper, who last released I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside on March of 2015 and followed with "Solace" shortly after.

This year, Earl has appeared on Samiyam's "Mirror" with a video dropping in late June. The track was originally supposed to appear on Earl's last album, but the song’s sample wasn’t cleared in time.

In January, Earl let three new songs loose with “Wind in My Sails,” “Bary” and “Skrt Skrt.” While it's tricky to make much sense of "Pelicula" and the manner in which it was discovered, it's worth noting that Frank Ocean too has deployed some left of center tactics today, posting a live stream video, likewise courtesy of Apple Music, to his webpage. As of now, any relation between the two posts seems equally likely and unlikely. Hopefully time will reveal what either of the two artists has planned.
