Yasiin Bey f.k.a. Mos Def, may be sequestered in South Africa for the time being, but that doesn't mean he can't at least perform within the country, which is precisely what happened when jazz instrumental group BADBADNOTGOOD made a stop in Cape Town for the city's International Jazz Festival. According to 10and5, a rep for Bey reached out to the band to see if they would back him for a short set. The results are captured in the above video, in which Bey and BBNG perform an unreleased track titled "Arcade."

"The rehearsals were magical, we really connected musically which is difficult sometimes after first meeting someone,” BADBADNOTGOOD explained to site. The Canadian quartet have worked with rappers in the past, having released Sour Soul with Ghostface Killah on 2015, while their upcoming album IV, which is set to drop this Friday (July 8), though it can be streamed on Apple Music today, features Mick Jenkins and Kaytranada.

Bey is priming his own upcoming release, announcing in January that his next album will be his last. In the time since, he has released "Local Time" and "Dec 99th (N.A.W.) both of which were produced by Ferrari Sheppard. Watch the video above to get an idea of Yasiin's new sounds. The rapper was detained in January for violating South African immigration law by allegedly producing a fraudulent passport.

What Bey's new and last album will hold can't be determined just yet, but the more of these small pieces that come to light, the better idea fans will have.
