Jevon Doe and Buddy take you around their side of town in Houston in "U Can Tell" video. Doe and Buddy along with two baddies hit the chicken shack, go for a swing and drive around the block while the two rappers spit bars about earning respect and money. Don't call them and say that they changed because they have been working to get everything they deserve.

"U Can Tell" is off of Doe's mixtape Story of My Life, which dropped in June. The 10-track project features Buddy, Ty Dolla $ign and Bun B. You can cop the project on iTunes or stream it now on Spotify.

The H-Town native fought off family troubles to become a four-tool athlete blessed with raw speed (he ran a 4.3 in the 40-yard-dash). He earned a football scholarship to Northwestern State University in Louisiana. But after injuries prematurely ended his career, Doe took to music to express himself. Now the Atlantic Records signee is riding high as one of the new bright faces of hip-hop. After releasing Story of My Life last month, Doe talks to XXL about the video for "U Can Tell," who he is as a person and what he has planned for 2016.

XXL: Who is Jevon Doe and what is your relationship with Bun B?

Jevon Doe: Jevon Doe A.K.A. Mr. Dreams Over Everything. I'm all the way from the North Side of Houston. Bun B has been a Legend in my city that I've chased around and tried to meet for a long time. But you know how the universe works, you stay persistent things will work out. Anytime I see Bun out, he always shows me mad love and brings me around so it feels good that he supports what I'm doing.

What's the inspiration behind the "U Can Tell" video?

My director Danny Williams and I agreed that this video should represent the beauty of the struggle. We didn't want a flashy look, we wanted it to be relatable to the everyday dude out there tryna make it, yet we still grinding and enjoying ourselves.

What did you want people to get after they listen to your mixtape Story of My Life?
I really just wanted people to understand who I am. I feel like my whole life people fucked with me, but never really understood me. Everyone goes through shit, but a lot of people never know about it cause they don't express it. I respect people's stories and they journeys, so if I'm brave enough to be able to open up about my life on a large platform, I would expect for someone to be able to respect that .

What are your plans for 2016?
2016 I plan on establishing myself man. I really wanna be doing this for the rest of my life, so I'm doing shows, videos, and also a second mixtape before the year’s out.
