Lil Yachty Pines for Something More on “Check Up”

Lil Yachty has the pine turned all the way up on his new track "Check Up," a melancholy love song for someone who isn't Yachty's main thing quite yet. Produced by D33J, the track lists RD and Lil Boat, Yachty's alter egos, as featured, with the Atlanta rapper at times backing himself up with varying inflections and tones.

The song's lyrics oscillate between Yachty's feelings of rejection and compliments that he pays to the subject in question. On the hook, he sings, "I know you didn’t mean it when you said you were leaving / So I’ll just let it slide put your feeling’s to the side," while later on, he's doling out praise. "From your hair to your toes / Someone’s beauty gets exposed / Every picture, every pose / You’re a queen I, swear / So delicate and rare," he raps. With summertime nearing closer perhaps Yachty is reminiscing about a past fling or what could have been, with such imagery as "long walks in the park with fresh fires with no goodbyes," suggesting there's a clear memory he's drawing upon.

Earlier this week, Yachty was named one of XXL's 2016 Freshman and just a few days prior it was announced that he had signed to Quality Control. “I am where I want to be, QC The Label. It’s Official,” he wrote on Twitter, later adding, "I just want to thank all my fans.. For being there for me. This is literally only the beginning. Big Things Coming Soon. Summer Songs 2 Otw.”
