Aaron Cohen Gets “Off the Ground” on New Track

Seattle's Aaron Cohen is back on the scene, readying the release of next EP, Off the Ground, for later this month. Before that though, the Seattle rapper drops off the project's title track in an XXL exclusive, as he floats over production from Kemal, bouncing between the instrumental's chime-like tones.

On the track, Cohen uses comparison and juxtaposition to paint a portrait of his hustle, rapping, "Let it stew, let it marinate / You was sippin’ on Perrier / I was outside, same clothes for days / How I do it? Count the ways / Numbers on the board, you can count the plays."

Off the Ground will be Cohen's third commercial release, following up 2013's Potential Fans. The eight-song offering is set to drop on June 24. The entire EP will be produced by Kemal.

Back in November of 2013, Cohen said that his goal in hip-hop was to "make the songs I want to make. Hopefully I’ll inspire people to do what they want with their lives instead of being depressed robots in the workforce."

Kemal's production was not featured on Potential Fans, so the new union with Cohen should offer a fresh perspective on the rapper's music. The album artwork shows Cohen in a colorful haze that matches the track's vibe and is vaguely reminiscent of Wiz Khalifa's Rolling Papers cover.
