If adversity builds character, than Joey Bada$$ is all the better having faced devastating times in the past, and he chronicles that struggle on a new single. The Pro Era centerpiece first debuted "Devastated" at Coachella back in April, with Statik Selektah supporting him on the turntables.

Produced by Adam Pallin, Kirk Knight and Powers Pleasant, "Devastated" is a soaring anthem from Joey, the Brooklyn rapper sounding as if he's arrived throughout. On the hook, he raps, "I used to feel so devastated / At times I thought we’d never make it / But now we on our way to greatness / And all that ever took was patience." Later on, he recalls how he channeled those feelings of despair into his art, rapping, "I put my pain in the cadence / Turned my brain up a wavelength / Now we’re flowing the ceiling / So just go with the feeling."

"Devastated" is the first single from Joey since he dropped "Ready" in February, setting off a beef with Troy Ave in the process. While the two have traded plenty of shots in the months since, Troy has bigger issues to worry about now, as the rapper has been arrested for attempted murder following a shoot out at a T.I. show at Irving Plaza on Wednesday (May 25).

No doubt some of Joey's devastation in recent years comes from the death of Pro Era member Captial STEEZ, whom the group will remember this July at the second annual STEEZ Day in Los Angeles. Listen to Joey's latest up above.
