Posthumous releases from late rappers are a touchy subject. Will the final product stay true to the artist's catalog? Would the artist actually want the music to be released in the first place? Those are just a few questions that come to mind when it comes to J Dilla's legacy. With a posthumous album from the late MC on the way, now a new song off the project arrives.

"Gangsta Boogie," which will appear on the new LP, The Diary, features Dilla at his best. The funky rhythm has a West Coast vibe, perfect for guests Snoop Dogg and Kokane to flex on.

The late MC gives a nod to his hometown of Detroit from the jump and reminds listeners why he's so revered after the track runs its course. "Dilla with the capital letters/N----s deliver it good, Dilla just be rappin' it better/Let's just get off of me for a minute and offer these n----s something off of me/D-I-C I kill n----s softly and be sure that I'm not Al. B," he rhymes on the track, which premiered on Dr. Dre's Beats 1 radio show The Pharmacy on Saturday (April 2).

The Diary was originally slated for release in 2002, but was shelved due to issues with Dilla's label at the time MCA, in addition to sample clearance problems. Mass Appeal, along with Dilla's PayJay Records and the Dilla estate creative director and former Stones Throw general manager Eothen "Egon" Alapatt are now bringing the album to the masses nearly 15 years later. Pete Rock, Hi-Tek and Madlib are just some of the producers lending their skills to the effort while Snoop and Bilal are among the collaborators.
