Fans of Royce Da 5'9" are patiently waiting for Layers to drop, but a treat is in store - Royce is dropping an EP first.

The vetted Slaughterhouse MC dropped "Savages" today from his new EP Tabernacle: Trust The Shooter. Much like the name of the album implies, Royce goes in on the 4-minute track, switching up his flows and riding the layers of the beat.

"Fly n****, mayday, tryna touch Mars/Tryna get a PayDay like a nut bar/Tryna get my own island, fuck cars/I'm without a bus card/Living in demise/The record label pimping him/cuz of the raps he giving them/He can actually deliver them and make a mother fucking ribbon in the sky."

Royce shares this new cut just weeks after dropping the lead single for Layers called "Tabernacle." The Detroit-born rapper explained his reasoning for the EP when he talked to The FADER.

"My original concept was to release a b-side record to coincide with the release of 'Tabernacle,'" Royce told the publication earlier this month. "But it turned into an entire EP that was inspired by a photo my man JD took at the 'Tabernacle' video shoot. Trust The Shooter is his brand and we both thought it would be dope to give fans all new music not available on the album."

A happy happenstance with Royce fans reaping all the benefits. XXL caught up with Royce recently to discuss his creative direction with Layers.

"Sometimes on your single you got somethin’ to say, you got somethin’ you gotta get off your chest. You got something you want to let people know, let people in on. And that’s pretty much where I’m at in my career. I’m not really focused on how many radio spins I can get or how many clubs my music is playing in. I really just wanna do cool shit and put shit out that means something."

Hear "Savages" above and get ready for twin Royce projects. Oh, and an album after that, too.
