Welcome to our Best Songs of the Week. It’s pretty straightforward – every week, we take a look all over the industry to see who dropped what, listen to their stuff, and then give you the best of the best. We'll put 'em in a different Soundcloud playlist (above) every week so follow us over there to see it first.

We’re only in the third month of the year but hip-hop has been blessing us with gift after gift so far. We’ve already gotten two full projects from superstars Kanye and Kendrick, one of leftover songs and one of still-unfinished songs. Every day new projects are dropping from artists big and small, and every day there’s more to discover. You can only be so mad at the state of hip-hop today until you look around for long enough.

Take Denzel Curry. Florida’s loved this kid since he was down with SpaceGhostPurrp, and now he’s got his own fiercely loyal fan base. Needless to say, his music’s only been getting better since 2013’s impressive Nostalgic 64. His new album Imperial is yet again a step up from last year’s excellent double EP 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms. His songwriting on the hooks has improved, as is clear on the single “ULT.” But “Sick and Tired” is a great example of how he’s balancing his raw delivery on verses with a different sound for the hook.

It’s not uncommon to hear Joey Badass sing on a track, and on his new tribute to Biggie “Brooklyn’s Own” he pulls it off nicely. What’s just as nice is Statik Selektah’s production on the song. Crazy.

Speaking of production, Lil Yachty’s “Minnesota” beat guaranteed this would be a hit, let alone his off-kilter chorus for the track. Even better is that he got Young Thug, Quavo and Skippa da Flippa to get on the remix. Thugger shines toward the end.

The Flatbush Zombies have been in the game for six years now, so for them to be just dropping their debut album with this much support around it is a testament to their consistency. 3001: A Laced Odyssey gives fans what they’ve been waiting for from the group, and “This Is It” is just one example.

And finally Doughbeezy, perhaps the least known rapper on this week’s playlist, at least in some parts of the country. The Houston rapper has been on his grind for a long time now, but he just dropped another tape called Reggie Bush & Kool-Aid 2. Go check that out if you want to hear an H-Town lyricist.
